This Piper L-4B Grasshopper, N50364, has been fitted with an
original "Brodie System" hook. This device was used during World War II to
launch and recover these versatile observation aircraft from a steel wire which was
suspended from the sides of some small transport ships.
The gorgeous cockpit of Supermarine Spitfire
FR Mk.XVIIIe, N280TP, owned by Rudy Frasca of Urbana, Illinois, USA.
The pilot of Fouga Magister N28JV found a novel way to plug the
jet intakes of his aircraft. He reported that beach balls work very well in this capacity.
They also attracted a lot of smiles from passers-by.
We hope you enjoyed this
look at some of the warbird aircraft of Oshkosh 2001. If you haven't yet attended this
magnificent event, we urge you to make the trip sometime. It is certainly worth the
effort. --
